The World In My Eye: Belgium
Bruges is a city as old as almost any in Europe. I found when visiting that
things are as they have been for several hundred years, once you
get off the main tourist street littered with lace and souvenir
shops. I have seen photographs taken in Bruges at the dawn of photography
in the middle of the nineteenth century that look identical to the
ones I took during my several days there. I was charmed by the simplicity
of the place, and by the wavy reflections of the stacked buildings
in the canals that are constantly churned up by passing boats. Every
stone, every brick are as they have been for hundreds of years,
making Bruges a haven of antiquity
